Sound familiar?

“We have the topic, but no one to own it.”

“Housing companies are asking about tenant electricity. What do we offer?”

“The utility next door already has an offer. We don’t.”

“Truck charging: is this a business for us?”

“Regulation changes faster than our product.”

“The supervisory board wants a decision on the charging hub by Q3.”

“We read a lot and still don’t know what is relevant for us.”

“Our backend no longer fits, and no one has time to choose a new one.”

We hear statements like these in almost every first conversation. The topic is clear. What is missing is time, people or depth. That is where we come in.

How we help

We create clarity, take load off and make your team faster.

01Filter what matters

From market, technology and regulation we extract what counts for your company. With a clear target picture that budget and people can align to.

02Take load off

A small team, ready fast, with a clear goal. We take on what is left undone: from the first offer to the paper for the supervisory board.

03Get faster yourself

We share our knowledge and bring tools and partners. So your team can do it on its own next time.

And we stay: from the first analysis to running operations, with one contact person you trust to know the subject.

Who we work with in your company

Product, sales, e-mobility, PV

You are expected to bring new offers to market, alongside day-to-day business. We bring pace and depth until you are ready to offer.

Corporate development and strategy

You have to decide which fields are worth it. We filter, calculate and show what other utilities have already done.

Management

You allocate a tight budget across many topics. You get a clear recommendation and a paper that holds up in the supervisory board.

Projects

Selected examples of how a question turns into a running business.

Mobility · E-mobility subsidiary of a utility

Truck charging hubs: data-driven utilisation forecasts over 20 years

Starting point
Investment decisions on public truck charging hubs lacked a solid basis: how well will a site be utilised over the years?
Approach
Built a methodology and model together with a data partner. Utilisation per site is estimated as data-driven as possible, in scenarios over 20 years.
Result
Utilisation forecasts and site reports for more than 20 sites as the basis for the investment decision.

Mobility · Municipal utility

Fast charging hub with PV canopy and lounge: from first idea to operation

Starting point
The utility was offered a plot in a new business park. The question: is it suitable for fast charging? There was no in-house experience with it yet.
Approach
Site analysis across the entire service area, business case, validation of assumptions with partners (co-CPO, secondary use, lounge, PV canopy), board paper, selection of the general contractor.
Result
Approved by the supervisory board. The hub is in operation, with more than 30 HPC charging points together with the co-CPOs.

Mobility · Municipal utility

Charging in underground car parks: from single project to marketable product

Starting point
Housing companies are asking for charging solutions in underground car parks, and first installations were already in place. What was missing was a product behind them: with pricing, contracts and processes.
Approach
Status review and critical assessment, product workshop, pricing model, legally reviewed contract set, go-to-market down to the processes.
Result
The product is live. The utility is approaching existing customers with it and planning sales to new customers in its service area.

Energy · Two municipal utilities

Potential analysis for PV and heat pumps for a cooperation of two utilities

Starting point
Two neighbouring utilities, one strong in PV, one in heat, want to supply each other, each under its own brand. The open question: how large is the local potential?
Approach
PV: solar cadastre, building stock, market master data register, growth rates, business models. Heat with a partner, based on municipal heat planning, excluding district heating areas.
Result
Five-year forecast with a tool for an annual target/actual comparison. The cooperation has started as a pilot.

Energy · Municipal utility

Building energy: clear priorities and a toolkit for tenant electricity offers

Starting point
Tenant electricity, shared building supply, energy sharing: what is a product, what a by-product? Meanwhile housing companies are asking, some with offers from national suppliers in hand.
Approach
Workshop and market positioning, then a review of processes, systems and interfaces: what is ready for tenant electricity, where are partners needed?
Result
A calculation toolkit for the pilot projects: metering concept, with or without storage, different apartment sizes.

Energy · CPO

Battery storage instead of medium voltage: fast charging despite a small grid connection

Starting point
Fast chargers were to be added at existing sites, but the grid connection was too small. A medium-voltage connection would have been disproportionately expensive, and funding was available for battery storage.
Approach
Charging concept with site analysis and business case, partner selection and storage prices, assessment of use cases, plus PV at one site.
Result
Storage systems are in operation at three sites, powering the fast chargers behind them.

Services

Selling kilowatt hours alone no longer carries your utility. Where will tomorrow’s value come from?

Energy

Distributed supply where buildings, assets and the grid meet.

  • Building and tenant electricity: positioning, product and pilot for apartment buildings and owner associations, as an offer for your customers
  • PV, heat pumps and battery storage: regional potential analysis as a basis for sales, simulation and business case, in front of and behind the meter, for commercial, industrial and charging sites
  • Regulation translated into business: what new rules mean in concrete terms for products and investments
  • Technical advice and plant certification: so that concepts become reality
  • Make, partner or buy: selecting partners and assessing stakes, with a compact due diligence when your utility wants to cooperate or invest

Mobility

Charging infrastructure as a business: for cars, trucks and fleets, public, at depots and in car parks.

  • Strategy and target picture: positioning in the charging market, portfolio, make or buy, workshops at decision-maker level
  • Site and business case analyses: demand, energy volumes, profitability, including truck charging hubs and depots
  • Backend and operations: selection and change of CPMS, charging card product, app integration, hardware replacement
  • Charging in residential buildings: shared installations in underground car parks, with product, contracts and processes
  • Products and implementation: from the charging product for business customers to project management in rollout

We work remote first and are on site when it counts: at the kick-off, in workshops, in front of the supervisory board.

Pragmatic, flexible and fast. What we promise, we deliver. If something does not fit or is not our field, we say so early and bring in the right partners from our network, for example for data, engineering or peak capacity.

This attitude applies to clients and partners just as much as within our own team. Behind it are four values.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers before we talk.

What exactly does NEMO Solutions do?

NEMO Solutions is a Berlin-based consultancy for municipal utilities and regional energy suppliers. We help build business fields beyond the kilowatt hour: e-mobility products, charging infrastructure for cars and trucks, building energy, PV, heat pumps and battery storage. We start with a concrete question and, if you wish, stay on board until operations are running.

What does “task force” mean at NEMO?

A small team that is ready fast and has a clear goal. Task force does not mean interim staff: we bring know-how and tools, work with your team and pass on our knowledge so you are faster afterwards.

Who does NEMO work for?

Mainly for small and mid-sized municipal utilities and energy suppliers in Germany. That is where we are at home. We also support charge point operators, investors and associations, mostly by referral.

How do we work together?

Remote first, and that since before the pandemic. We have the tools for digital collaboration that works. Just as happily we come on site and get to know your team in person, especially at kick-off and in workshops.

What sets NEMO apart from a large consultancy?

You work with the people who deliver. We stay on board until implementation, know the utility world from the inside and operate ourselves: we hold stakes in our own energy and charging companies, for example a tenant electricity project with 170 homes. The responsibility for every recommendation stays with us.

We have a small budget and no clear plan yet. Is a conversation worth it?

Yes. Most engagements start small: with a workshop, an analysis or a first offer. Then you decide whether and how deep to go.

Does NEMO work outside Germany?

The focus is the German market. We also support companies from abroad entering the German market; English-language projects are possible.
